Unfair Dress Code

By Aleena Alexander

Did you know the girls and boys have different dress codes? Us girls aren’t allowed to show our shoulders or have rips above the knee. I get big rips above the knee but for small rips that show nothing is unfair. While boys can have big rips above the knee and they don’t get dress coded like girls. They need to make the dress code fair for both girls and boys because it sexist to the girls. How short and skirts have to be fingertip length is also unfair because everyone is a different height and the fingertip length is different so they should make it which has to be a little above the knee. The dress code states that “ Apparel or fanwear that is representative of another high school/ district” is against the dress code. What will the new students do? They have no clothing to support the new school they are going to. The dress code even says the dress violates the school's dress code which is unfair and stupid.

In conclusion, they need to check the school's dress code and make it fair and equal for everyone because right now it’s not fair or equal. One kid in our school wore his twin sister TCTC sweat pants because she went there and got a dress code for wearing them. Most people in our school including me think the dress code is unfair and unequal to everyone. It needs to be changed for the better. All I think is that the dress code needs to be changed.

How Music Affects Our Emotions

By Haley Holland

What’s your favorite song? How does it make you feel? It may not be surprising that music is capable of affecting our brain's chemistry, which in turn affects us emotionally.

Have you ever been sitting in your room feeling sad or mad and you play your favorite song and it instantly cheers you up? Well, studies show that listening to music increases the neurotransmitter dopamine. Dopamine is basically the brain's “Motivation Molecule” and is an essential part of the pleasure-reward system.

Music has the ability to trigger memories. If a song is played, it can cue memory of something that has occurred in life, good or bad, and the emotions felt during that time may come flooding back.

Music is also capable of improving mental health conditions such as Parkinson’s Disease. Studies have shown that the rhythm, the beats, can temporarily stop the effects of Parkinson’s Disease, but once the music stops, the symptoms return. Music can trigger memories in Alzheimer’s patients that they normally wouldn’t be able to recall. Music can reduce stress, depression, and anxiety. It also increases mood and can help produce a better night’s sleep. And it can help quiet an overactive mind.

Music is healing in so many ways. Music can be used to communicate. Maybe you have played a song because it expressed how you felt about someone or a situation better than you could have expressed yourself through words.

There is a reason they say that music is the way feelings sound. The next time you find yourself feeling sad or mad or stressed, put your favorite song on, stand up, and dance around and I guarantee you will feel better. Music has the power of change because where words end, music steps in.

The Shipping Containers That Stole Christmas

By William Woods

Many people are having a hard time buying gifts, food, and clothing for the holiday season because cargo ships are not being unloaded fast enough. Those cargo ships are full of items that people and businesses desperately want. And due to the ships not being unloaded, shelves are bare without items. Now the question is how did it get this way?

Many businesses point to covid 19 as the cause of this problem because of the rise of online shopping and a major change in buying habits. This sounds like a simple explanation for a more complex problem. The problem starts with the newer cargo ships. They add more storage space so more items can be imported to other countries. But that's a problem because they are a lot bigger than their predecessors so unpacking takes a lot more time. The second problem is that not only are the ships bigger but the ports are backed up and have no space so until one of the ships is emptied. As of Tuesday, according to the port authority of Los Angeles, 25 billion dollars worth of cargo are stuck on 80 container ships off California. Ships have been waiting as long as September to dock in port. The lack of port workers to unload these ships causes yet another delay. Then there is the problem of the shortage of truckers to move the supplies across the states. And the final problem is the lack of store workers to move the items off the truck to fill the store shelves.

Businesses have always looked forward to the holiday season. It's when they can receive the most profit for their products. But now, for many businesses, it is the exact opposite problem. Because of items being stuck on cargo ships, businesses have to make do with what they have. It has messed up supply chains causing factories to stop or slow down production and driving up prices for consumers. For example, “Nike has cut back their sales and earning targets because they’re concerned about shipments they were counting on in time for the holidays”.

The end result from this mess of a problem is people are going to have a hard time buying this holiday. Purchases will be dependent on what is in stock and what is not. So expect the worst when buying for this time of year and remember it is the thought that matters anyways.

Drama... When Will It End?

By Aleena Alexander

In my opinion, the drama that has been going on in our school is inappropriate, outrageous!!! Drama is nothing but trouble and the drama is caused by two or more people, rumors. Drama can get you kicked off teams or even out of school. Do you really want this because it is going to be hard to get on another team or in another school? Let me tell you no one wants drama on their team or in their school because it causes so much trouble.

Yet sometimes drama can be good like in a play or THE DRAMA CLUB. In conclusion, drama is nothing but trouble unless used in a play or the DRAMA CLUB so please try to stay away from the drama for your own good.

The Devious Lick Challenge

By William Woods

The “devious lick challenge” or willful destruction, as most people otherwise would call it, is when students destroy public restrooms for enjoyment. This all started in the second week of school when a Tik Tock challenge was made by students destroying restrooms. Then it spread like a plague destroying the school restrooms across the country. The number of students who started this online challenge is unknown. If there were any ramifications for starting this challenge is also unknown. Unfortunately, Liberty Local schools were not immune to this challenge. As we conclude the ninth week of school it is good to know that all restrooms are almost up to full working capacity.

The challenge at our school started with the destruction of a handicap restroom. Mrs. Joseph said that they tried to fix this problem by shutting down the stall upon receiving information. However, that did not work because the vandelles continued to destroy the restroom. Then another bathroom fell victim to this challenge as another restroom sink was destroyed. This challenge was not limited to the men’s bathroom but also the ladies’ restroom. This challenge encouraged students to destroy locks on bathroom stall doors, destroying toilets, paper towel dispensers, toilet paper rolls, and soap dispensers. Overall, thus causing inconvenient bathroom closures throughout the first quarter of school.

Mrs. Joseph said that she is not sure who all was responsible for the damages but she was able to seize some of the culprits. Punitive action had been taken against those responsible. She was not able to divulge their identity because of privacy. Damages to the bathrooms were paid out through the general repair funds given to the district. General funds may be from tax payers or perhaps from grants. Mrs.Joseph said that the last two bathrooms that are closed will be open in a week.

With all the information that I have gathered I do believe this problem is getting better. However, I wonder if we could just avoid this problem altogether if we just changed our thinking a bit. I recently read about a freshman from Mathews High School, Kaylee Scott. She helped her elementary school by adding artwork and motivational quotes on the doors of stalls in the girls bathroom. Perhaps we too should consider positively enhancing our school rather than tearing it apart.

Devious Lick... How Far Would You Go?

By Braylan Bankston

In my opinion the tik-toks that have been going on are despicable, inappropriate, and outrageous !!! They can be funny but, where should you draw the line at? Hitting your teacher or demolishing your school tik-toks shouldn’t be fun and funny but not distructful Anyone should have enough boundaries to know when to stop being immature.

But tik- toks can also be a fun way to share videos and be silly but all in a safe way in conclusion tik-toc is great place for entertainment but know your boundaries
