In the second half, the Leopards defense gave up a 1 yard touchdown to East’s Larry Reed but played very sharp throughout the half. After a few bruising carries by Liberty’s Junior Blair in which he literally carried defenders on his pursuit for every last yard, arguably the best drive of the night for the Leopards ended with the Leopards barely missing out on the end zone.
Easts’ James Boatwright completed 4 of 9 passes for 45 yards, with all 4 completions going to Imoni Donadelle. Leon Bell picked up 70 stripes rushing on 16 attempts.
Liberty’s Andre Bowers connected on 7 of 17 attempts for 80 yards through the air. JaShaun Whitman showed to be Bowers’ favorite target, catching 5 passes for 48 yards. Junior Blair dragged the East defense for 37 yards on 8 carries.
Liberty has opened the 2015 season by being outscored 83-7. Although the numbers don't show it yet, the team has shown a lot of improvement already and their grit on the field is unmatchable. They travel to Brookfield this week to take on the Warriors.
The Leopards put together a number of good drives throughout the game, but couldn’t find the endzone at the end of them. After a few missed opportunities by the Leopards, Panthers running back Leon Bell put East on the board with a 7 yard tiptoe to the end zone. Although the Leopards couldn't find the end zone by halftime, the defense looked stout in keeping the East offense out of the endzone for the rest of the half.
This Friday’s matchup featured two teams off to a 0-2 start. With the Leopards getting outscored 69-7 in their first two games, the Leopard’s needed to score the ball as wellas keep East out of the endzone.
