This past Friday night, the Leopards traveled to Campbell to take on the Red Devils in hopes of keeping their winning streak alive and obtaining their sixth win of the season. Liberty succeeded in this goal, shutting out Campbell by a score of 30-0. Campbell won the coin toss and chose to defer to the second half, giving the Leopards the ball to start the game. It wasn’t long before Lynn Bowden found the endzone on a four yard QB keeper, putting Liberty up 6-0 early in the first. The Leopards defense continued to play its part, and the electrifying Leopards offense drove down the field and executed another scoring drive when Brandon Rios punched it in from two yards out to give Liberty a 14-0 lead late in the first quarter. While unable to move the ball effectively, the Red Devils fought hard to hold their own on defense, and by halftime, Campbell continued to trail the Leopards by two touchdowns.
The second half of the game told the same story as the first, as Rios again found the
endzone on a 22 yard run to put the Leopards up 22-0 in the third quarter. However, the Leopards weren’t done yet. Before the end of the quarter, Bowden punched in another trip to the endzone on a 21 yard keeper. By the beginning of the fourth, the Leopards lead Campbell by a score of 30-0. The Leopards defense, keeping consistent through the fourth, prevented the Devils from getting on the board. Lynn Bowden finished with nine rushes for 118 yards and two TD’s, while completing three of seven passes for 71 yards. Junior Brandon Rios added two additional TD’s on the ground from three and 21 yards out, and senior Ben Phillips had 69 yards rushing and caught two passes for 37 yards. The Leopards astounding defense held Campbell to only 139 yards of total offense on 52 plays. Following Friday’s game, the
Leopards offense has averaged a whopping 32.7 points per game while the defense provided its second shutout in three weeks.
