Zachary Holmes, a senior here at Liberty High School, is just the average student. However, when he leaves school, he does not go straight home. Instead, he goes to a local fire station (Brookefield Station #18), where he has been a volunteer for the past year and a half. In mid-October, Mrs. Denning, a teacher at the MH unit in W.S. Guy Middle School, admired that Holmes had taken time out of his day to help people. She asked him if he would like to be their Hero of the Month, and of course, he was honored to. He came dressed in all his gear, showed the kids how it worked, and presented his duties to them.

Holmes plans to continue his career in firefighting, putting his life on the line to save others. He says that, “Helping people is what I want to do with my life. I’m not living unless I’m helping others.” Zachary Holmes is a true hero.
