Dominant. That is one way to accurately explain the performance of our Liberty Leopards this past Friday at Champion. The Leopards dominated the Golden Flashes with a score of 54-16. The big story of the night, though, is the insane performance by Leopards QB Lynn Bowden. Bowden accounted for all eight of the touchdowns Friday night as he rushed for six, passed for one, and returned the opening second half kickoff for another. Bowden found the end zone early in the game, only for Champion to answer back with their own long run to tie the game at 7-7. However, it would be a long time until the Golden Flashes found the end zone again. On the first play of the ensuing drive, Bowden again runs in a long TD, going for 65 yards. The narrative doesn’t end here, though. During the second quarter, Bowden rushed for two more TD’s and passed for another, finding JaShaun Whitman for 40 yards. By halftime, Champion trailed Liberty 42-7.
The second half didn’t aid Champions troubles, as Bowden returned the second half kickoff to add to the Leopards score, making it 48-7. Bowden’s final TD of the night would be a short run that was preceded by a deep pass down field. Following this drive, the Leopards JV offense and defense took to the field for the remainder of the game. Bowden’s stats for the game were incredible -- 19 rushes for 316 yards and six rushing TD’s. Support the Leopards (3-1) as they travel to LaBrae this Friday to take on the Vikings (3-1). Good luck Liberty!
