“Liberty’s basketball future is in good hands,” said the head coach of Liberty’s freshman basketball team, Gary Hendrick, after closing out a very competitive season. The team consisted of Ja’Maron Aaron, Ezell Brown, Mike Everly, Spencer Hickson, Anthony Marsco, Elijah Matthews, Travis Myers, Marquan Tate, Isaac Hinds, Anthony Defrance, Jzamere Woods, and Justin Creech. The team finished 5-4 in conference play beating teams such as LaBrae, Newton Falls, Campbell, Champion, and finishing with an overall record of 7-9.
The freshman Leopards lost in the AAC tournament to the second seeded Lakeview in a very defensively aggressive game. Even though the freshman ultimately fell, it was a learning experience that will help them become better players. This team has talent that was seen throughout this season with players such as Mike Everly, Elijah Matthews, Travis Myers, Spencer Hickson, and Ezell Brown moving up to play Junior varsity. Elijah Matthews and Travis Myers also were given the opportunity to showcase their talents at the varsity level.
Furthermore, the team would like to thank Erica Carnes, Abigail Polewchak, Tiana Gammon, and Zoe Nalback for their help with statistics and film, and would like to thank everybody who came out and supported them this season.
