The 2016 presidential election has essentially defined the current status of this nation, and the resultant tone that is to be in effect in the years to come. It is needless to say that this election has been one unique to its own. It is one that has been distinguished by the factors of social media, hateful rhetoric, foreign involvement, and undefined ulterior motives that have played crucial if not dominant roles in the overall campaign strategies and final election result.
Throughout the entire campaigning process, the American people were kept intrigued at the edge of their seats, encompassed by every leading headline and candidate remark. In the midst of the ongoing contention, tensions across the nation began to rise. This race brought forth uncomfortable issues in need of addressing, thus the unfortunate (though warranted) questioning of characters among American citizens. The status of this nation and its overall cohesiveness of its citizens will, of course, be determined and enforced by that of whom is awarded this respected office.
His First 100 Days:
Donald J Trump has been elected to the highest regarded position in the country. The million dollar question now remains: Will President-elect Trump fulfill the various eccentric promises he has based the entire foundation of his campaign on while in office? These promises, hand picked as being the most controversial include (though are not limited too):
Building a wall along America's Southern Border, in which Mexico will be responsible in paying for solely.
Pursuing Secretary Clinton on the issues of her private email server, resulting in her incarceration
Mass deportation of illegal immigrants currently residing in the United States
A “shutdown” of Muslim Immigration into the United States
These most pressing issues have been the most controversial throughout Trump's entire campaign process, they have also been the catalyst in the building of Trumps mass following and unexpected win. In regards to these specific affirmations, the President- elect Donald Trump has back peddled on each and every one of these promises, the same promises in which played the dominant role in awarding him the presidency. While the planning to build the wall remains, its execution has not. The most recent tweet regarding the completion of the wall reads as such:
In regards to Mr. Trump's persistent assurance that once in office he will be hasty and efficient in conducting a thorough investigation of Secretary Clinton lead by the Attorney General in which would lead to her prosecution, Trump has now denounced those plans in a New York Times reported statement which reads:
“I don’t want to hurt the Clintons, I really don’t, she went through a lot and suffered greatly in many different ways, and I am not looking to hurt them at all. The campaign was vicious.”
Among these backpedaled statements leads to the promises that had been among the top if not most enforced affirmations. In the matter of the Trump trains most motivating and exciting propositions, in response to the President-elect's urgent push to perform a mass deportation, when asked about his planning in regards to the execution and funding needed to perform, he was reported on MSNBC in which the statement entails:
“He’s not calling for mass deportation, he said, ‘No, only people who have committed crimes.’ And then only until all of that is taken care of will we look at what we are going to do next.”
And finally, as the issues of ISIS and other fanatical organizations continue to rise, the President-elect had proposed early last year for the “Complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States”. Upon his victory, this same statement and its call for action had mysteriously disappeared from his website. While this does not guarantee the denouncing of the plan by Mr. Trump, it does call for immediate attention and speculation as to what his current stance on the issue is and will continue to be.
As inauguration day approaches the country is at a standstill, some excited and eager for the change of pace, others terrified. The responsibility of the President of the United States is to represent the American people, fulfill the promises they have made and do so in the best interests of the people.
