The Leopard’s Roar asked a few staff members at Liberty High School to give advice to the senior class of 2014. These are their words of wisdom.
“Focus on your goals. Friends can be made wherever you go and whatever you study. Be true to yourself ~ know what is good and just, and hold tight to those values as you move forward. The world will not always be kind, but if we remain true to ourselves and what we know to be good, it will prove to be a fantastic ride. Smile ~ try to laugh at least once a day and try to learn something new every day ~ then at night, lay your head down and rest, make this journey the best possible ~ there is no “reverse,” go forward and know you always have a place to visit ~ at Liberty High School.”
-Mrs. Blystone
“One of the valuable tips that I can give to graduating seniors is to “never put off anything until tomorrow what you can do today.” As a young adult you need to stop procrastinating. Whether you choose to go to college, into the workforce, or into the military, you need to learn to get things done on time. Employers, professors, and commanding officers will not care if you do not feel well, are tired, or have some other excuse for not getting your work done. Start today to begin accomplishing more each day.”
-Ms. O’Brien
“If you’re going to college, don’t schedule any classes before 9:00 AM. You probably won’t go and then you’ll have nightmares about not passing, at least that’s what happened to me.”
-Ms. Frank
“I can’t take all the credit for this piece of advice since I found it online, but it is a piece of advice I wish someone would have gave me after graduating high school. Without risking your safety or future career, do something that scares you. Whether it is public speaking, mountain climbing, moving, making new friends, going to college, or starting a career. Confront a fear and try to work through it. Success is about overcoming obstacles.
-Ms. Jerek
“Enjoy the moment and remember that you are the future leaders, teachers, and parents of this great country. You will have failures along the way, but they will only make you stronger if you learn from them and continue to be persistent. A strong work ethic is the key to success in whatever endeavors you choose to pursue. Good luck in the next phase of your lives.”
-Mr. Knittle
“You only get one chance to make a first impression. Make it count.
-Mr. DeToro
“Life will bring you a rollercoaster. It is full of ups & downs. You are bound to make mistakes in life. How you handle those mistakes will shape your future. Own them, say sorry, ask how to improve and you will earn respect. If you deny them or blame others, you will never learn from your mistakes and earn nothing from your peers or superiors. No one expects 100% perfection, but they do expect honesty, hard work, and loyalty. Try your hardest and you will accomplish more than you think you can! Surprise yourself!
