The Liberty High Sch
ool Theater Club is back up and running and is ready to put on its first performance of the Broadway Musical ‘Little Shop of Horrors’. ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ is a musical with many layers. On its surface, it’s the story of Seymour Krelborn, a naive worker in a flower shop in a bad part of town who wants more from life. This desire causes him to do evil things that are very out of character for him and eventually it all comes crashing down around him. Essentially, the play is a Greek tragedy where Seymour is our tragic hero who tries his best despite forces that are out of his control. The play is also a variation on the Faust legend, which is generally known largely as the “deal with the devil” type of story line.
There are many people who have key elements in creating this play. These people include the cast, crew, SMARTS department, YSU Art Department, and the LHS Jazz Band. The cast includes, Aidan Baumeier as Seymour, Maia Polewchak as Audrey, Andrew Baumeier as Orin, Matthew Fabian as Mushnik, Darrell Brown as Audrey II (Voice), John Chandler as Audrey II (Puppeteer), Cassie Dross, Breanna McCain, Hannah DeRenzis, Sarah Hlaudy, Shaniah Coleman Johnson, and De Ashya Jenkins as the Girls Chorus, and Carter Bates, Mariana Castaner, and Dereck Clark as the Ensemble. The crew consists of Paige Romain, Aiden Colletti, Maria Weirick, Allie Orr, Regan McKernan, Ceejay Caddy, Julianna Dross, Maggie McKernan, Christina Thompson, Maggie Reeve and Dillon Grabski.
The entire cast and crew of the LHS Theatre Club is very excited and hoping to put on this performance for a limited capacity of audience members in the LHS auditorium on November 20th and 21st at 7PM and a Sunday matinee at 2PM. If unable to perform to a live audience, they will record the show and stream it after it’s edited. In the mean time if you are wanting a sneak peak of their performance you can head over to the Liberty High School Drama Club’s Youtube channel and check out their performance of the song ‘Skid Row’.
