WORLD WIDE AWARD 2024
Given that I have never been a fan of contests, this year by chance by connecting to SX0WWA on January 5th and checking on QRZ.com I learned about the World Wide Award 2024 for the occasion of Gulielmo Marconi's 150th anniversary.
Since it was about remembering Marconi, I wanted to participate without any pretense considering that I operate with a TS850 with approximately 50W in a square-shaped antenna (loop) with a 42 meter perimeter placed horizontally.
I was thus able to verify the functionality of this antenna of mine which I had created especially for the 40 meter band and which until then I had considered unsuitable for other bands such as 10 / 12 / 15 / 17 meters and instead I had to change my mind; certainly it's not a directive but it allowed me to defend myself well and make myself heard even in the "bailame" pile-up. Obviously thanks to the excellent operators of the special stations scattered throughout the world who also operated with gigantic antennas.
Without taking anything away from all the others, it is worth mentioning, for their operational peculiarities, all our Italians and in particular II6WWA (Op. Eliseo IK6BAK) and then N1W, SX0WWA, GB4WWA, UP7WWA, operators who always listened to me and also Chinese operators who didn't give up and with patience managed to copy me. A heartfelt thanks to all these activators of the special stations.
Premesso che non sono mai stato un appassionato di contest, quest'anno per caso collegando il 5 gennaio SX0WWA e andando a controllare su QRZ.com sono venuto a conoscenza del World Wide Award 2024 per l'occasione del 150° di Gulielmo Marconi.
Trattandosi di ricordare Marconi ho voluto partecipare senza nessuna pretesa considerato che opero con un TS850 con circa 50W in antenna a forma di quadrato (loop) di 42 metri di perimetro messo in orizzontale.
Ho potuto cosi verificare la funzionalità di questa mia antenna che avevo realizzato soprattutto per la banda dei 40 metri e che fino allora ritenevo poco idonea per le altre bande come per i 10 / 12 / 15 / 17 metri e invece ho dovuto ricredermi; certo non è una direttiva ma mi ha permesso di difendermi bene e farmi ascoltare pure nel "bailame" pile-up.
Ovviamente merito degli ottimi operatori delle stazioni speciali sparse in tutto il mondo che operavano anche con mastodontiche antenne.
Senza nulla togliere a tutti gli altri sono da menzionare, per le loro particolarità operative, tutti i nostri italiani e in particolare II6WWA (Op. Eliseo IK6BAK) e poi N1W, SX0WWA, GB4WWA, UP7WWA, operatori che mi ascoltavano sempre e anche operatori cinesi che non demordevano e con pazienza riuscivano a copiarmi.
Un sentito ringraziamento a tutti questi attivatori delle stazioni speciali.
