L class
The Westrail L class was ordered from Clyde engineering in the late 1960's, the locomotives entering service from 1967 onwards. Many have since been rebuilt as the LQ class, LZ class or as the 31 class. Only 3 locomotives remain with their original numbers and 6 have been renumbered with the new West Australian system. Both the rebuilt and original locomotives are in the 31XX number block. L276 was ex Comalco R1002 and when entering service lacked dynamic brake and was officially classed Lw276 although it never wore this number. It was eventually equipped with dynamic brake but was rebuilt as LZ 3120. L277 was ex Comalco R1001 and was purchased by Australian LocoLease in 2010 before being taken to Victoria and renumbered/reclassed L277 on the end of the original L class number block. It differs slightly in design to other L's in the horn position was not changed like L276.
