Classing: TT - Tonnage Transferrable
The TT class as built by Downer EDI in Cardiff NSW. They are used for coal operationas in the hunter valley. The term Tonnage Transferrable comes from them having removeable weights behind the pilots at either end of the locomotive. The TT class was origionally going to be built as LDP's 010 - 018 but an agreement was made with PN for the purchase of the locmotives and the slight modification of their design to add weight pods to either end just under the coupler pocket. With their weights added they are 139 tonnes but with the weights removed they weigh 136.2 tonnes, thus allowing them to run normal operations on the mainline like an LDP or SCT class would. The first series is numbered from 01 - 08 (these are originally the weighted locos) but the second and third orders are numbered in the 100 range (originally unweighted). This group is referred to as the TT100 class. In early 2015 LDP's 010, 011 and 012 were purchased from EDI by Pacific National to become the 4th order TT's and were oddly enough, ballasted unlike the other TT100's.
On the 23/8/2012 TT's 104, 116 and 117 were involved in a collision at Nundah that bent their frames. The 3 loco's were transported to EDI Port Agusta for frame replacements. TT117 was the first loco to return to service, reentering service in late June 2013 followed by TT116 which was heading home from Port Agusta on the 30th of November 2013.
