XRN class

Classing: XRN - Xstrata Rail Network ?

The XRN class was built by UGL for Xstrata coal as they were to be hauling their produce with their own motive power and wagons. The classing may come from Xstrata Rail Network but this I am not sure of. They are operated under contract by Freightliner. In 2014 after a merger the locomotives began to be rebranded with GLENCORE lettering replacing the Xstrata logos and in 2016 were all sold to the haulage contractor, Freightliner. Genesee and Wyoming purchased Frightliner and in September 2017 XRN030 was the first locomotive to be repainted in the new colours.
