DL class

Classing: DL - Australian National classing scheme

The DL class was the first class of locomotive in Australia to use an EMD 710 series engine (in this case a 12 cylinder) and was intended to be running fast interstate passenger services. For this they have an unusually high rated speed of 153km/h. The are only two that are not in service which are DL 36, which was put into storage after developing a major fault in its engine and DL 37, which was involved in a collision in Hines Hill, Western Australia and written off. Today they see their service in either intermodal or baulk service with Pacific National with most in PN blue and yellow livery. Currently 3 remain in their original AN green and yelllow, these being DL36, DL43 and DL48 and two in National Rail grey - DL44 and DL49. DL36 was finally cut up in mid 2016 after being stored as a parts doner since the late 1990's at Port Agusta.
