442 class

The 442 class 'Jumbos' were once a strong class of 40 locomotives but have since dwindled to less than a half of the original classmembers through scrapping and rebuilding into other classes such as the CFCLA GL class and the MKA project to rebuild 442 frames into RL class locomotives. Silverton also renumbered a number of 442's to the 442s class and despite silverton being defunct for a number of years, still retain that classing. After withdrawal of most of the class they were sold off to various operators and during these sales 2 locomotives 44229 and 44233 were purchased by BHP to become BHP101 ans BHP102 respectively. Both BHP loco's have since been rebuilt as GL class locomotives by CFCLA. Some of the CFCLA owned loco's were reclassed the JL class when in leasing service. All have since reverted to their original number or were rebuilt as GL's. 44221 was sold to Australian National in the 90's and was originally to replace 702 that was damaged beyond economical repair by fire. Instead 44221 was stripped to a bare shell for spares and eventually cut up in the mid 2000's.
