AB class

The AB class was the last development in the A series with the differences to the earlier AA's being a newer generator model and a longer frame allowing for a larger fuel tank. Oddly enough the AB's did not follow the numbering of the A and AA's and were instead put in the 1530 series. Unlike most other A series ARG did not withdraw and sell most of this class, instead renumbering them into the 1500 series. AB1532 was exported to Chile and rebuilt for use on the FCAB railway while AB1533 was sold to TranzRail but was subsequently scrapped. All other class members were retained in Australia.
