BL class
Classing: BL - Australian National classing scheme
The BL class was ordered by Australian National in the early 1980's. The order was extended by 5 locomotives by V/line for the first series G class. With the formation of National Rail the whole class was transferred to NR for national traffic on intermodal trains. With the aquisition of NR by Pacific National the BL's have been sent to other tasks. They have operated on both broard gauge and standard gauge and still operate on both gauges today. Some BL's have been transferred to broard gauge for the Victorian long island steel trains and grain hauling.
