From the Dashboard, go to Coupons.
Click ‘Add coupon’
In the coupon code field, add the name of the coupon. Only use alphanumeric characters for coupon codes. Do not use special characters. Ex. FocusOnForce2020. Use the prefix fof if that makes sense. Use a short name that describes the purpose of the coupon.
In the Description field, add a description that describes the purpose and details of the coupon.
In the Coupon data section, under ‘General’ select the appropriate type of the coupon in the Discount type field:
Percentage discount is used if the discount is in percentage
Fixed cart discount is used if the discount is for a specific amount
Fixed product discount is used if the discount is for a specific product
6. In the ‘Coupon amount’ field, enter the percentage discount or the fixed cart discount amount whichever is applicable.
If it is a percentage discount, and we are providing free access (e.g. for a charity) enter 100
If it is a non-profit and we are providing 50% discount then enter 50
If it is a corporate/bulk purchase that has already been paid for a number of coupons, enter 100
If it is a special coupon deal available to anyone e.g. email campaign, then enter the % discount e.g. 25 for 25%
7. Fill in the ‘coupon expiry date’. It is usually the promotion end date. If it is a general coupon e.g. bundle, then it would be the anniversary date or one year from creation or the end of the promotion.
8. In the Usage Restriction section, add the minimum amount that needs to be spent to qualify for the coupon. For example, to qualify for the bundle discount, the customer must spend at least $25.
9. Tick 'Individual Use Only' - otherwise customers can apply multiple coupons at the same time.
10. If the promotion only applies to certain products, then add the products in the Products field.
11. Under usage limits, fill in the ‘Usage limit per coupon’ if there is a limit on the number of times we would like the coupon to be used. For general promotions, this can be left blank.
12. Under usage limits, leave the 'Usage limit per user' field blank, unless we have a reason that we don't want users to use this coupon multiple times.
13. Hit Publish once done.
14. Test the coupon on the Checkout page and make sure it applies the correct discount. Also, test that it does NOT apply if the coupon should not be applicable.
