We have started using a plugin that updates an older image with a new image using the same URL. This is useful because we have several study guide pages and practice exam questions that reference the same screenshot or diagram, and we do not have to replace each one when updating an image.
Limitation: the user needs to clear their cache or do a hard reset (ctrl+F5) to see the updated image. This means if a user previously loaded the page, they might not see the updated image immediately.
1. In the WP Admin page, go to Media.
2. Type the filename in the search bar. The filename can be retrieved from the study guide or practice exam page.
3. Select the image you would like to replace.
4. A pop-up will appear and click on the "Upload a new file" button. This will lead you to a new page.
5. Click on the "Choose File" button and choose the new image you want to upload.
6. Leave the default option as is, i.e. "Just replace file". Click on the "Upload" button.
7. The old image will be replaced by the new one. If you would like to check, you would need to clear your cache or do a hard refresh (ctrl+F5). Another option is to use another browser which will only be used for image update checks.
