Installed Screencastify Chrome extension
At least about 50MB space in your Google Drive
Know what exactly you would like to show in the GIF to keep it as short as possible
You can choose to record either the browser tab or desktop. Browser tab is recommended to avoid other windows or programs from interfering with the recording.
No audio is needed so microphone and tab audio should be off. They are off by default.
'Show Drawing Tools' (under 'Show more options') is optional. See features available here: https://help.screencastify.com/article/143-annotate-a-recording
Click the gear icon to get to 'Advanced Settings' and change the 'Max Frame Rate' to 1 FPS. See screenshots below.
Start - Click on the Chrome extension icon, choose the settings, then click on the blue 'Record' button
Stop - Click on the Chrome extension icon, then click on the square icon for stop
Once you stop the recording, the video preview will pop up in a new tab where you can:
Share the video (e.g. maybe to check with Martin if you are unsure about the recording's content)
Crop the video (e.g. if you only want to show a portion of your screen) or trim the video (e.g. if there's a long pause at the beginning/end and you want to cut that out)
Edit the video - Not recommended since GIFs should be short anyway; might be a better option to retake the recording instead. More info here: https://help.screencastify.com/category/133-editing-premium
When you are happy with the recording, you can download it from the same video preview page. Click the download icon which has an arrow pointing downwards and the hover text should say "Save to disk".
Click on 'Export animated GIF'.
A box with the title 'GIF Export' will pop up. This is where you will choose the resolution size of the GIF.
If the screen recording was cropped, please consider choosing a smaller resolution size for the GIF.
If the full screen was recorded, do not use the full size for the GIF export because it will not show in that size on the website anyway. Please reduce the resolution, but still check the resulting GIF if everything is still readable and understandable.
