People can explain hinges and origami
and why the sun is hot,
numbers and sharpies
and how to tie a knot.
But they just can’t recall
why we use millions on buildings
even though they will fall.
Billions on prisons
and the Bellevue Square mall.
Then
the schools are too full
the water’s not clean
kids are digging for coal
and picking coffee beans.
And this is our future, down deep in a mine.
This is our future,
and this isn’t fine.
So now is the time.
Not tomorrow, or Sunday.
Everyone says, “We’ll fix it one day.”
But one day is here.
One thing’s for certain,
don’t wait for ‘them.’
YOU be that person.
