This screen lists all the rules that determine when articles can be disregarded automatically i.e. by the system rather than by users.
The story disregard processing rules are defined for each publication listed across the top of the page. You can click on the relevant publication to view the corresponding rules.
The rules are separated into several tabs and these are very similar across publications. For print publications the Byline and Byline URL tabs are unavailable as these have no meaning in the print world.
The Byline tab allows the input of text which is checked against the Byline on new content to determine how it might be processed. The options here are to auto-staff the content, auto-disregard it with the specified reason, or link it to a contributor if they have a contract.
Where there is URL within the Byline field (very common for content share agreements) then processing rules can be specified under the Byline URL tab. The options here are to auto-staff the content, auto-disregard with the specified reason, or link it to a contributor if they have a contract.
The rules under the Headline tab are used to process published headlines. The wild cards (%) can be used at either end of the search string, and system will apply longer rules before shorter ones. The options here are to auto-staff the content, or auto-disregard with the specified reason.
The screenshot below shows Story start rules which apply to the first paragraph or two of an article. The options here are to auto-staff the content, or auto-disregard with the specified reason.
The Description rules below show processing for text that appears in the Description field. The options here are to auto-staff the content, or auto-disregard with the specified reason.
At the bottom of each tab there is a checkbox "Apply changes across all publications?". If this is checked then when a rule is added to one publication it gets replicated to all the other publications when it is saved, to save time setting up the same rule multiple times.
