This screen lists all the rules that determine when images can be disregarded automatically
The image processing rules are defined by publication. Scroll to the appropriate publication at the top of the screen in order to see the corresponding rules.
A few example screen shots are provided below, each representing rules that are applied to a specific item of data i.e. property of an image. The rule definitions are very similar on each tab.
For example, taking the first screen shot and then data highlighted on it. This rule tells us that when processing content published on theguardian.com, in any department, if the Copyright field of an image ends with the string /ESA it should be disregarded as a Photomontage.
The Copyright tab allows for a contributor to be specified, instead of a disregard rule, such that the content would be matched to that contributor' contractual arrangements with GNM.
In the next screenshot (below) the rule says an image published in any department on theguardian.com should be disregarded as PR promotional material if the Source ends with the string /ASAR.
When processing some data, such as Provider below, only disregard rules are permissible i.e. the data cannot be linked to a contributor.
The example for Caption data below shows how the rule can be for text that appears anywhere in the caption field. This is achieved by the wild cards (%) seen at either end of the search string.
At the bottom of each tab there is a checkbox "Apply changes across all publications?". If this is checked then when a rule is added to one publication it gets replicated to all the other publications when it is saved, to save time setting up the same rule multiple times.
