The list of departments is extracted from the published content but needs further categorisation in order to process the content efficiently.
Visible in RCS? This checkbox indicates whether a publication is visible in RCS.
Misplaced? Occasionally a Guardian code appears in Observer content, and vice versa, and in these cases the code is marked as misplaced.
Editorial production desk? This option indicates whether the code is used to categorise content. When it is unticked it is usually because a dummy department (of people) has been created.
Special? A special is an extra section, page or book of content that is produced as a one-off on a particular day. There is a small list of codes used for specials which are used by every desk in Editorial. Specials codes are flagged because of their widespread usage. This widespread usage makes it necessary to have a process called Special allocations that ensures users only process the content they produced using this code, and not other desk's content.
In GNM's text archive? This indicates whether the process that extracts content from the archive should process this department.
New for Berliner? This checkbox identifies whether the corresponding department code was defined for the advent of the Berliner format of the printed publications.
