Getting Started with Garage Band

1. Start Garage Band.

2. Start an Empty Project

3. And then choose Software instrument

4. When the keyboard pops up, play it and make sure you can hear something. If you can't, check your headphones and the Sound System Preferences to make sure Line Out is selected for sound output.

Garage Band has its own audio preferences also. So check this to be sure it is either Line out or same as system.

5. When your sound is working, unblock the annoying counting and metronome that always comes on at the beginning.

6. Click the Apple Loops Button on the top right.

To find loops, press the buttons at the top right to choose the instrument, then find the loop.

7. Find the loop you want and drag it to the main window.

8. Loop the instrument by dragging on the top right corner. Trim by dragging in the middle on the end.

9. Find another instrument and add it to your song.

10. Have fun.

11. When you're done, save your project by going to the File menu and selecting Save As.

Name your project afarley_band_001.band with your first initial and last name together like mine. Save it to your desktop by choosing Desktop where it says Where:

We'll do more to it tomorrow.
