Fast for Nonviolence Project
Post date: Dec 14, 2015 3:34:46 PM
Please name your projects! In final cut, name your project. Untitled is unprofessional and it will show up at the top of your movie!
Naming convention: Group_Week#_PSA or Group_Week#_Documentary, or Group_Week#_Graphic.
ex. bsu_01_psa
Here is what you will be doing:
1. PSA for Season of Service Project (30 sec - 90 sec) (Due 2 Weeks before activity!)
Create a PSA explaining what your Season of Service group is going to be doing. Think of this as a short video advertisement telling people at our school what is going to happen, when it is going to happen, and where it is going to happen.
You can also put things in the PSA that explain the problem or re-enact the issues.
This is due two weeks before the group does their activity so it can be put on the website.
2. Graphic (due 2 weeks before activity)
Create a graphic (1920x1080 sized) that advertises when and where the activity will take place. This graphic will be shown on the TV screens you see around school.
Don't forget to be thoughtful about the use of type
3. Documentary (2-5min due one week before your fast or the end of the March if the activity comes near or after your fast week.)
You will be creating a documentary about the Season of Service project.
Here are the things you need to do:
1. Find out when the group meets and when they will be planning their project. Film them planning. You don't need to shoot a lot, you need to "shoot for the edit" meaning you get the shots you need and get out. One pan across the participants, one shot of someone speaking, a close-up of someone talking, a shot of hands working, and a shot of people interacting. Sound is not important. No shaky hand held shots! Do this sooner rather than later. Set the shots up if you have to. Have them act like they are planning.
2. Interview student and teacher leaders about the project and what they hope to accomplish. Good lighting and sound is a MUST. Beautiful shots.
3. Film the event. Same thing as the planning shots, shoot for the edit. Allow the voiceover to explain what's going on. If someone is speaking, get shots with sound of them if it's important.
4. Interview participants during the event. Grab a couple people and get their reaction to the event. Don't bother with idiots, find intelligent people. Write down their name and who they are for your lower third.
5. Interview the leaders' reflections of the event. You can do this at the event or days after. Good lighting and sound! Beautiful shots!
6. Create a documentary of the project. Your documentary should have a voiceover explaining everything that happened: How they planned it, what happened. The interviews (only the good ones and only include the important statements. No long boring interviews!!! Yuk.) How it went. And why it was awesome.
3-5 minutes for the total documentary. See, now you're glad you shot for the edit.
You may also create your own Fast for Nonviolence project for a cause of your choice. You need to do all of the above about your own project.
Fill out the form here with your preference.
