Natasha Barredo Is Working for Cartoon Network!

Congratulations to Tashi for getting a job at Cartoon Network in their production department as a Storyboard Artist.

Tashi graduated from SLAM in 2008 and went to Chabot after high school. She stayed with her art and her dream to be an animator and graphic designer and transferred to California College of the Arts. She then interned at Nickelodeon as a Animation Development Intern in 2015.  She then worked for ModCloth as a stylist, Power and Magic as a Cartoonist/Writer, Puny Entertainment as a storyboard revisionist , and then Oni Press as a Cartoonist/Writer.




Victoria Barrios

Victoria is Helena's big sister. She graduated from SLHS and SLAM in 2012.

Victoria is a motivated writer/producer with an emphasis in science. She's been enveloped in media for the last 8 years ranging from field and studio production for broadcast and digital platforms.She is now an Associate Producer at Seeker. Seeker is a digital network aimed to bring science, world, and adventure news content on social media platforms. On Facebook, she created videos with on-screen text translating the latest news which over the course of 3 months, generated about 42 million views on the Seeker Media Facebook pages (formally Discovery News, and Animalist).

After high school she attended San Francisco State University where she studied Broadcast Electronic Communication Arts, Television Production.

Here are some of the projects she has worked on with Seeker. For these mini-docs Tori does everything from research, to b-roll, studio production, to edit supervisor.

She also worked at The Discovery Channel.
She helped establish Discovery's first daily news series called "Science Presents DNews” as well as “DNews Daily Bite,” which are thirty second to one minute segments that broadcasted on the Science Channel network and Animal Planet during prime time. Former President Barak Obama was on her show multiple times.

Missy Andres, Production Supervisor at DreamWorks Animation

Missy Andres graduated in 2010 from SLHS and SLAM. Since then she has been busy. She is a Poduction Supervisor at DreamWorks Animation. Her latest project is Mary Poppins Returns.

Before that, Missy worked at Duncan Studio as a Production Manager. She worked on "Mary Poppins Returns" and  "Middle School, The Worst Years Of My Life." Here is a featurette on the movie:

Before that, she worked for The Jim Henson Company. Missy worked on the animated kids show "Dinosaur Train" officially as a Production Assistant but she was also a script coordinator.

Leilani Diaz

Leilani Diaz is a SLAM Alumnus and is now a student at Berkeley City College.  She is also an advocate for foster youth rights. She began writing when she was younger and used it as an outlet to get away from the outside world. Diaz wrote this story as part of a Media for Advocacy Training with California Youth Connection and Fostering Media Connections.

DeMonté Lane aka Fantastical Carpé

Fantastical Carpé is a 27-year-old producer/rapper/actor from Oakland, Ca.

Eric Hytönen Playing for Jr. Swiss National Ultimate Team

Here's what the team said on their Facebook page:

"Due to the lack of players on the U20 national team, we sent out scouts to remote parts of the world in order to find ultimate talent and they finally discovered someone in San Diego, California in the USA. A 19 year old who combines Swiss discipline with Finnish power. His first coach in the States and the U20 coaches here, asked only one thing of him: That he could catch the disc. Lucky for us can he not only catch very well, but also do a whole lot more. Already on his first training weekend Eric named set plays, improved our playbook and coached the team, so that the “real coaches” could swim in Lake Maggiore. The team is looking forward to Poland and feel that Eric’s high level ultimate experience and huge backhand hucks will help the team perform on the world stage.

Favourite move: Stellar defensive positioning to cause offensive players trouble."


Dennis Neal Baseball Card!

Dennis Neal is a professional baseball player for the Trios-Rivières Aigles in the CanAm league in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He was just issued his first ever baseball card as a professional baseball player. Congratulations Dennis! #slamfamily

Armand Wesley Designer and Entrepreneur

SLAM Alumni Armand Wesley has just opened an online store selling reconstructed shoes with a designer style.

"A young artist/designer brewing creative ideas out of the Bay Area, California. Taking steps to express my vision and make it accessible to the masses. Current project is the reconstruction of Vans Sk8-hi's, doing limited runs and producing an elevated version of the once thought to be "beater" shoe. Doing my best at changing everyones perception of the style. one pair at a time."

Melissa Andres, SLAM class of 2010 finished her Bachelors in Film and Electronic Arts from Cal State Long Beach last year (2014) and is now working for The Jim Henson Company. Missy is working on the animated kids show "Dinosaur Train" officially as a Production Assistant but as they are in the writing stage of season 4 she is working as a script coordinator right now. As the show evolves from script to animation she will fill many roles and is happy to be able to work on all aspects of production.
