Interview Questions

Assignment

Ask a friend to say one thing that they like about San Leandro High School and one thing that can be improved.

Turn in one interview of another student to the Interviews folder with your name and the subjects they are talking about. Example afarley_slam_ftk.mov. You do not need to edit the clip, just name it and put it in the folder

Include the question in the answer.

Have the interviewee include the question in their answer.

For example: "What color is the sky?" could be your question. The answer you don't want, is "blue". The answer you do want is, "The color of the sky is blue but during the recent fires, it has sometimes been red or brown."

For this assignment, the answer you don't want, is "the lunch lines." What you do want is, "One thing that could be improved at SLHS are the lunch lines. You can wait for most of lunch in line and then only have fifteen minutes to eat and relax."

Good Sound.

To have good sound you should use a lav mic and headphones to hear the sound. Your camera sound should be set to manual and you the volume set so it is not peaking during the interview.

Sound should be set to manual.

Here is a lesson on adjusting sound settings with our cameras: Sound Settings.

Good Cinematography

Here is a checklist you should go over for every shot you take.

Composition, focus, light, sound.

Composition

Is the framing done well. Rule of thirds? Be intentional about everything in the frame. Is the background appealing. Use a tripod.

Focus

Is the subject in focus. (use manual focus with DSLR's).

Light

Is the light good? Is the subject well lit and not in front of an overblown window? Shut the blinders! Look at the LCD screen. Does it look good everywhere?

Sound

Use a lav mic for sitting or standing people. If you are moving around a crowd quickly to ask questions, use a handheld mic or a shotgun mic.

Sound settings should be manual. You should have headphones to monitor your audio.
