Ken Burns Effect in FCPX

The Ken Burns Effect is a way to bring motion to images.

Some things to remember when using Ken Burns:

Always zoom in or out to something interesting.

Never zoom in so much you pixelate the image. Get a larger image and transform it down first, then Ken Burns the zoom in.

1. Drop an image into the timeline and find the Transform/Crop/Distort button.

Transform your image first so that it fills the screen.

2. Press the Crop button and find the Ken Burns button on the overlay that pops up.

3. Press Ken Burns and then adjust the Start and End boxes.

Click the little flip button on the top left to reverse the effect and zoom out. It is best to mix it up a bit and not always zoom in. But do things for a reason. In/out/in/out is good, but don't do that all the way through.

Press the Play button to view the effect then press the Done key on the top right to move on.
