About Us

The San Leandro Academy for Multimedia (SLAM) is a three-year digital media academy program at San Leandro High School. We provide a school within a school atmosphere at a large and crowded public California High School.

Students in SLAM take academic courses such as English and Social Studies inside the academy as well as media classes. The coursework in all classes is aligned so that many projects are cross-curricular, meaning students are putting English and Social Studies content into the media they create.

Examples of Student Projects

Identity Project. Seniors in SLAM begin the year writing identity essays in their english class to get ready for college applications. They then take that writing and create an Identity Video for use in art college applications or to explore who they are.

Fast for Nonviolence
The Fast for Nonviolence is a rolling fast where students in the San Leandro Academy for Multimedia (SLAM) create Nonviolence service projects in our school as well as in our community to promote peace and nonviolence. During each school day of the Fast, groups of students fast for 24 hours and present their project to their peers, the school, and the world via social media.

Season of Service, Period of Peace
SLAM's Fast for Nonviolence is part of the Season of Service, Period of Peace. But more than that, the Season of Service grew out of the Fast for Nonviolence. The Fast was such a successful and meaningful service project that we decided to take it school-wide through the Season of Service.
