Open Adobe Audition and take the guided tour to learn about Audition.
These tutorials show some of the reasons why you should use Audition.
Here's a good tutorial on using Audition for a podcast. This video shows how to normalize audio, remove breaths, de-ess, add compression, and EQ.
Click File > New > Multitrack Session. Give your podcast a name. Select Podcast in the template menu.
Find the Fast Podcast folder in the folder of sharing and drag it to your desktop.
Drag your audio files to the Files panel. Do not drag them straight from the server.
To find music, you can use the media browser or you can go find the music and drag it to your files window.
Start your podcast with music, then one of the intros given in the folder, then your recorded show. You can end with some music as an outro also.
EDITING AND TRIMMING
Editing and trimming are very similar to Final Cut Pro or Soundtrack Pro. Trimming tools are located in the Toolbar at the top of the window. We are interested in the first four icons on the left in the screen shot below.
The Move tool (keyboard shortcut: V) allows you to select and move clips.
The Razor Blade tool (keyboard shortcut: R or RR) allows you to slice a single clip, or multiple clips. This works just like the Razor blade tool in Final Cut Pro.
ADDING FADES
When it comes to adding fades, Audition is far more flexible than either FCP or Soundtrack Pro.
To add a fade, click the small box in the top left (In) or right (Out) corners of a clip and drag sideways.
However the VERY cool part is that when you drag the fade handle up or down, you can change the shape of the fade! This is far more flexible – and easier – than adding fades in FCP or STP. In this screen shot, I’ve add a fade that starts slowly, then speeds up at the end. This is a good way to cover a cough or sharp sound at the beginning of a clip.
Noise removal
If you have hiss, noise, or a hum that shows up throughout a clip:
1. Open the clip in the waveform editor (double-click it).
2. Find a section between or before you talk that has the bad sound and select it.
3. Go to Effects > Noise Reduction/Restoration> Capture Noise Print.
4. Next, select the whole clip (double-click or drag).
5. Effect > Noise Reduction (process)...
Adjust the amount of noise reduction until the noise is gone but the audio still sounds good.
To export your show,
Export it as a Wav file. Name it your name and the subject: afarley_mansplaining.wav
Turn it in to the Fast Podcast folder on the server
