Whats a service project

Service projects will be done once a month in addition to the normal projects. Different service projects will be announced as they come up or you can do something long term that you choose to do. If your service project becomes a longer term project, you can turn it in as a normal project with Mr. Farley's permission.

Do not wait until the end of the month to cram this in. Go to an event, film some shots, take some pictures, and create a short piece about it. You may work with others but every student is responsible for doing their own.

Here are some service project examples:

Create a short video, graphic, or slideshow about a school event. This included SLAM events! They happen all the time.

Work as a SLAM Officer

Work as SLAM Historian

Participate in SLAM leadership meetings and event planning.

Work on a Game of the Week broadcast, SLHS announcements, or a This Week in SLAM show.

Work on a project for a teacher or administrator at SLHS or any other school.

Work before or after school in the checkout room.

Come up with something you want to do and check with Mr. Farley or another SLAM teacher.

What to do?

1. Go to an event

2. Film shots (shooting for the edit)

Establishing shot (Pan over participants)

Action shots (speakers speaking, a couple plays, crowd cheering

Close-ups, signs, score board, unique features or people

Final shot (final score board, high fives, wide shot of whole event)

You should never shoot the whole event like a dad on vacation. Nobody wants to see all that.

3. Voiceover

Explain what, where, how, why, and results. Keep it quick and lively (15-30 seconds).

4. Edit your shots to the voiceover.

5. Export as Master File with h264 compression and put it on the server in the proper folder (I'll figure this out)

Post to YouTube and fill out this form.
