L. Herennius Balbus 18

vol. VIII p.665-666

18) L. Herennius Balbus, a friend of Cicero’s (meus familiaris L. Herennius Cic. Cael. 25), <60> though he was more like an enemy when it came to political matters, since he, P. Clodius, and others came together to charge M. Caelius Rufus in 698 = 56 (L. Herennius also in Cic. Cael. 49. 56; Balbus ibid. 27. 53), and in 702 = 52 he charged the slaves of Milo and his wife, who had taken part in the murder of Clodius (Ascon. Mil. 30, 4 K.-S.: L. Herennius Balbus). <page break 665/666> It is unknown whether this Herennius, the only one who had any ties to Cicero, has anything to do with the phrase coheredes Herenniani in Cic. ad Att. XIII 6, 2 from the year 709 = 45.
