5) Marcius. According to Plut. Cic. 16, 1, on the morning of 7th Nov. 691 = 63 Catiline sent a Marcius alongside C. Cornelius Cethegus (see above vol. IV p.1278 nr. 89) to Cicero’s house, to murder him. Cethegus’s companion is elsewhere named L. Vargunteius (see above vol. II A p.1706), and this rare name must have been corrupted in the mss. of Plutarch to καὶ Μάρκιον, which cannot be resolved by simply putting καὶ in brackets.
