Massiva 2

vol. XIV p.2165

2) Massiva

The son of Massinissa’s son Gulussa (vol. VII p.1932). <30> After Jugurtha had taken Cirta and slaughtered Adherbal and his associates in 112, Massiva fled to Rome. When Jugurtha had been called to Rome, the consul elect Sp. Postumius Albinus allowed Massiva to state his claim to his grandfather’s kingdom in the senate. He must have quickly started to follow through on that, because Jugurtha had him killed via his accomplice Bomilcar. <40> The killer was caught in the act and charged with murder. However, Jugurtha was clever enough to take him away to Africa in secret. This lead to the king being driven out of Italy (Sall. Iug. 35. Liv. ep. 64. Flor. III 1, 8).
