Ampsanctus (or Amsanctus)

A small lake in the land occupied by the Hirpini, between Aeclanum and Compsa, which produced poisonous gas; now le Mufite, between Rocca S. Felice and Villamagna. Next to it, there was a Sacellum to the Dea Mephitis with a cavern, <page break 1980/1981> which the suffocating air originated from (Plin.
