Dion 13
vol. V p.847
13) An academic from Alexandria (Stob. flor. 19, 17 p. 305 M. = 537 H.), <30> who allegedly gave rise to the idiom τὸ τοῦ Δίωνος γρῦ (Plut. prov. Alex. 29 Cr., hence Ps.-Zenob. 454, Suidas and Apostolios). People who were around at the end of the Ptolemaic dynasty appear very frequently in the Alexandrian idioms. Because of this, there is very little reason to doubt that this Dio is equivalent with the academic Dio nr. 14, who was sent by the Alexandrians to Rome as an envoy, and who was assassinated by Ptolemaios Auletes. <40> Cf. Crusius Ad Plut. de prov. Alex. comment. (Lips. 1895) 65.
[Crusius.]
