He was one of the high-ranking men who were killed by the emperor Severus after the victory over Clodius Albinus (197 CE) (Hist. Aug. Sev. 13, 1). <50> The athlete family of the Claudii Rufi of Smyrna is attested in inscriptions, for whom one of them ἐγένετο γένους ὑπατικῶν (IGI 1107. 956. Dittenberger-Purgold Inschr. v. Olympia nr. 54. 55).
