Bomilcar 5

vol. III p.681

5) Bomilcar

Friend and advisor of Jugurtha, who took on the task of murdering Massiva in Rome in 110 BCE, and was sent back to Numidia by Jugurtha in order to avoid the charge (Sallust. Iug. 35. 61. Appian. Num. 1). In the Battle of Muthul in 108 BCE, he commanded part of the Numidian army, and stood opposite Rutilius (Sallust. Iug. 49. 52). <20> Later, he was won over by Metellus, and first tried to get Jugurtha to agree to surrender to the Romans. When this was unsuccessful, he decided along with Nabdalsa to kill the king: his plot was discovered, however, and Bomilcar was executed (108 BCE Sallust. Iug. 61. 70-72).
