Clodia 72

vol. IV p.108

72) Clodia Tertia

Clearly the oldest of the three daughters of Ap. Claudius Pulcher nr. 296, <10> wife of Q. Marcius Rex, consul in 686 = 68 (Plut. Cic. 29, 2. Dio XXXVI 17, 2). She married him while her father was still alive, and this meant that her brother Appius (in Varro r. r. III 16, 2) could say that he only had to look after two sisters. Just like the other two, city gossip rumoured that she having incestuous relations with her brother Publius (Cic. ad fam. I 9, 15. Plut. loc. cit., where her other name is given). <20> cf. Drumann G. R. II 274, 46. Mommsen on CIL I 619.
