Claudius Drusus 137

vol. III p.2703

137) Claudius Drusus

A corrupted reading in Suet. Tib. 2: Claudius Drusus, statua sibi diademata ad Appi Forum posita, Italiam per clientelas occupare temptavit; cf. Appius Claudius Caecus (nr. 91).

[from suppl. I p.318:]

Fruin (Jahrb. f. Philol. CXLIX 117), whom Ihm (Herm. XXXVI 303f.) agrees with, casts doubt onto the link between Suet. Tib. 2 and Ap. Claudius Caecus; instead, he has the son of Caecus nr. 317 in mind, whose cognomen is Russo in the Chronogr. and which could easily have been replaced by Drusus in Suet. However, perhaps Drusus instead owes its existence here simply to the preceding rursus, and cannot be used as a basis for editing the text at all. <60>
