The Glory Days
The Great Alexander marched in 334 BC from the shores of Greece to avenge the many Persian invasions agains the Greeks. His ingenuity, strength, wisdom and loyal allies helped him to reach almost to the ends of the known world. He vanquished the Persian Empire and his influence and structures reached beyond the Indus River and Hellenism had shown its superiority to all others. His last battle to end a legacy of victories without defeats was against King Porus.
The Thriving Kingdom
After his death, his empire was shattered yet the many Hellenic kingdoms thrived in their own right. The Bactrian Kingdom which was founded by Diodotus I in 250 BC, sat like a jewel in the crown of India. Our realmfor many years rivalled the neighboring Indian kingdoms. Our culture mingled with various people of the land and our knowledge, architecture, philosophy and wisdom left a permanent mark in the land.
The Downfall and the Patient
The parthians, scythians and internal rivalries in the end brought the downfall of our realm. Yet the Hellenes did not dissapear. They continued surviving in the various courts of the rulers of the land. Their language made them valuable administrators. Traders, architectures, spies and generals are some of the occupations they had.
The Birth of the Sunborn
Around 1047, Eratosthenes Kambriotis was born. It was a very bright day when he came to the world. Perhaps an indication of fate and the bright life he would lead.. Eratosthenes led a revolt of the local populace against their muslim overlords which eventually managed to userp the duchy from the local ruler and reestablish a Bactrian realm. He has remained a vassal of the Ghaznavids however and only time will tell for how long that will last.
The Progenitor of us all. Rose from humble origins to rule a duchy under the Ghaznavids. An ambitious and skillful tactician, he would lead many battles with him at the helm. He managed to retain his lands by forging decent relations with the Ghaznavid Sultan. This relationship and the fact that the sultan was more preoccupied with the Seljuk Empire to the West, meant that Eratosthenes was more free to chase his ambitions within the realm.
Having married himself with the very influential family of the Varhas, in 1072 he waged war against the Atabegate of Multan. A prosperous and very rich duchy due to the fertile plains of the Indus River. With the aid of his new allies he managed to conquer these lands and hastily also sent many gifts to the sultan to appease him. The same year his son and heir Aristarchus would be born.
The greatest threat to his reign was when a local muslim ruler from Multan begun a rebeliion to overthrow the Buddhist Eratosthenes. The revolt was crushed and Mahadev Tilaki was exiled to the wild lands of Cumania
Although Eratosthenes did not hold any hatred against the muslims, they however did. On the 5th of April while traveling to Alexandria on the Indus, his caravan was ambushed by muslim bandits and raiders. His retinue and himself fought bravely but in the end one well placed arrow on the eye took the mighty ruler down. His body was thankefully recovered when the local garrison had finally managed to come. When his son looked at the body of his father, no water could quench his fire. And no muslim would be safe during his reign
On it ;)
