The fall of Andalusia
The collapse of the Almohad Caliphate in the 13th century fractured Iberia and the Maghreb into a multitude of warring states. This period of chaos was a perfect opportunity for the Christian Kingdoms to wage their war of 'Reconquista', resulting in the annexation of all the Muslim states of Iberia with the sole exception of the Emirate of Granada.
The most powerful of the Maghrebi Kingdoms is the Sultanate of Morocco, ruled by the Marinid dynasty. Through they control a great deal of stratetigal territory, the Marinid rulers are little more than puppets of their Wattasid viziers. Many within the Marinid family resent the Wattasid custodianship of Morocco, while the Wattasid themselves all but openly covert the throne for themselves. Being so concerned with internal mistrust, Morocco failed to defend the city of Ceuta from a Portuguese assault in 1415 and have since been unable to recapute it. As the strongest of the Maghrebi Kingdoms and living in the former caliphates palaces - the Moroccans are seen as arrogant.

The Ksar of Aït Benhaddou
The fortified city of Aït Benhaddou was built during the Almoravid period in the 11th century. The city lies deep within Tizi n'Tichka pass, up tall in the Atlas mountains and its position is the most protected in all of Morocco.
It would never be a shame to move the capital into a more defensible position. The Tizi n'Tichka pass is the only route through the Atlas mountains. Its fertile with lots food, rivers and the most beautiful views of the sun setting in the West.
There is no grand palaces in Aït Benhaddou though. Not yet.
Palaces worthy of a Caliphate
The Almohad Caliphate ruled the Islamic world from 1147-1269. For over a hundred years lived the descendant of Prophet Muhammad in the Palaces of Morocco. The Caliphate is not here anymore, but the palaces are still here. We might be a shadow of our former glory, but it is about time we remind the Christians - send out more ships to raid the coast of the mulhids!
The Markets of Morocco
The caravans drag exotic goods from across the Maghrebi deserts. Trade is an essential part of the Moroccan way of life. Sugar, dates, gold, species , fabrics, slaves, olives - whatever the heart desire, it can be bought here.
Secure your position and integrate your vassals.
Raid everyone you can. Negotiate deals with the Christians of not raiding them in exchange for precious deals.
Your enemies must have other enemies in Europe - find them and become friends with them.
Be active and spy on the Iberians, you must know what struggles they go through. They will plan the next invasion before you know it. And you need to know when they struggle, so you can recapture what is truly yours!
Gather strength and fortify your holdings, war will be upon us soon.
Decide upon the future of Morocco. Unite the Maghreb region and conquer Tlemcen and Tunis? Or go South across the Sahara and conquer the Sahelians!
There is lots of mountains and highlands in Morocco. Maybe build some mines and look for precious metals!
Maybe we even might get a spot in the Americas and make the legacy of Ahmad al-Mansur come true!
Never forget that the first line of our defenses is the sea - a powerful navy can work wonders and even make you an attractive ally of those who need a navy on their side.
The dream of Al-Andalus still lives in every ruler of Morocco. Never stop dreaming.
