Background:
Svartr Cursebraid was born to Holmar of Haafinger, the King of the northwesternmost region of Skyrim. His father enjoyed the wealth and power that his position brought but always knew his place, seeking to simply make use of the vast holdings of their family. Svartr grew up resenting such a narrow world view and knew their family could be more. Solitude is one of the biggest and most powerful cities of Skyrim, although it lacks the Palace of the Kings it is an iconic place. Many would find the Blue Palace to be much more fitting for a High King in the modern age even.Svartr grew up a constant thorn in his family's side as he lied constantly before becoming competent enough to hide his schemes. The bond he shared with his siblings was a strong one, and he made promises to his brother that he would become landed so they could rule together. His education was a good one and he became increasingly focused on the ancient history of the Nordic Empire when Skyrim was a true political and military power. The High Kings of this week were weak in his eyes, and lacked vision. Whilst younger he pushed his father to consider action against King Logrolf but was met with nothing but open hostility. King Holmar understood his place, Svartr did not.
His father died when he was 30 and with his ascendency to power the King of Haafinger began to plot for something even greater. Such things take time, and as such the King in Solitude did his best to forge relationships with the Jarls of Skyrim and other prominent groups and leaders. In order to claim the High Kingship he could not do it without backers. At last in 2E 431 he had gathered enough respect and support to put his plan in motion. The Dark Brotherhood was a recent faction in Cyrodil who Svartr managed to get into contact with, for an an absurd fee he convinced them to take a contract to assassinate King Logrolf, which was done smoothly. Waiting only long enough for news to reach him naturally the King of Haafinger called a moot in Solotude, ignoring the claim of the recently deceased High King’s daughter Freydis who owned the Crown of Verity which had chosen her. Although the crown which was magically imbued to choose those worthy was used up until then to choose the next High king was not his, Svartr claimed that it had been corrupted and that Freydis was a bastard. At the Moot in Solitude many agreed with his claims and backed him for High King, notably the 16 year old whose stubborn father oddly enough also just passed away. In addition to all of Haafingar and the regions south of there all the way to and including Rorikstead. Despite this the crown still held great weight and many leaders respected the Inheritance of Freydis. Since this event there has been a great rift between the east and West with Svartr constantly scheming for ways to outmaneuver his great rivial who he hates more than anything for getting in his way.
Character:
Svatr is a man with a very different public and private disposition. To the broader public and those he needs he is the definition of charm and goodness, always putting on a good show and appearing the just King. To those who actually know him he is a fickle man, known for often deciding things on nothing more than a whim which has caused problems in the past. Svartr constantly plans webs by which to ensnare any who get in his way and is not above murder, blackmail, and anything else to get his way. To those that wrong him there is little that can stop his fury and he will let very little get in the way of them having what he sees as their due.
Outlook
As the High King of Western Skyrim you have been in a cold war with th East and your rival Freydis for the last 9 years. Neither of you are strong enough to crush the other without support from the neutral parties. Many have in the past been unable to agree to support you but that can change. You are growing old now and there is not much longer to secure the future for your heir and dynasty.
To the south there are two great threats.King Lodvar of the reach makes no attempt to hide his hostility to you and if he unites the lands of his holdings will be a potent threat. The true threat is that of Yashnag gr -Yazgu who has taken the holding of Falcrenth after the destruction of Orsinium. He has made it clear we are foremost on his lists of conquest.
RP Points/Goals:
- Convince Neutral Jarl’s and players to back you for High king
- Deescelate or deal with the Reach
- Prepare for the possible invasion of the Orcs of Yashnag
- Stabilize your holdings as your son inherits
