The renaissance and the printing press
The renaissance gave birth to an unprecedented amount of inspiration to all aspects of human life and society. The renaissance artists of the Empire were busy in making some of the most beautiful art, especially religious art. However, as the Reformation unfolded the religious art fell in decay as it was seen as idolatry.
The printing press was invented by Johannes Gutenberg in Mainz with the purpose of printing the Biblia Sacra and spread the good news. The price of a newly printed bible was 30 florins, which was around the price of three years wages of an average clerk. Mainz is filled with history that peaks during the period of EU4!
The Imperial Shepherd
Every Christian soul must be protected and guided by the religious clergy that see themselves as shepherds of the immortal souls of humans. The people of the empire has faith in you! When the time comes to take a side in the future conflicts, you must be ready and on the front. An active Archbishop in Mainz follows the diplomatic stage of the Empire and advises the Emperor. The best way to advance your front is to be on the side of his Imperial Majesty.
Gain his trust and help him!

As Papal Legate you have the duty to perform the duties of the Curia in Rome. When you play as Mainz you play as a loyal legate that performs the Popes wishes. But things can of course change over time, but when the game begins, you are loyal to the Curia and it is expected that you RP in an active Catholic way.
- Advice from former Mainz Players -
Antiq - Global Campaign Season 4:
Mainz is great fun and allows for really influential roleplay on both the religious and Imperial front. I cannot stress how much fun it is to be impactful in the RP while not being the responsible. When it comes to religious matters, the pope is the front and responsible figure and the same with imperial matters, then it is the Emperor who is the figure in front. You get to play as both a religious and imperial powerhouse in regards to RP influence, while sitting on the beautiful Rhine in your Electoral Palace. Your ideas and mission tree is centered around building tall, saving mana on tech, advisors and development, you will have tons of mana and gold to spend on whatever shenanigans faith and empire gets dragged into.
