Description
At the start of Robert's Rebellion, House Greyjoy was one of the major houses of the Iron Islands, an archipelago off the western coast of Westeros. Their sigil was a golden kraken on a black field.
At the time, House Greyjoy was led by Lord Balon Greyjoy, a stern and ambitious man who had spent nine years as a prisoner of war after a failed rebellion against the Iron Throne. Balon had a deep hatred for the mainlanders, whom he saw as weak and decadent, and he was determined to restore the ancient independence of the Iron Islands.
The Greyjoys were known for their seafaring skills and their fierce and independent nature. They followed the ironborn tradition of reaving, raiding the coastal towns and villages of the mainland and taking captives as thralls, or slaves. They also practiced the ironborn religion, which worshipped the Drowned God and emphasized strength and courage in battle.
Despite their reputation as fierce warriors, House Greyjoy had little influence on the politics of the Seven Kingdoms before Robert's Rebellion. They were considered a minor house and were often dismissed as little more than pirates and raiders.

Recent History
House Greyjoy has a long and bloody history, dating back to the Age of Heroes. According to legend, their founder was a warrior named Greyiron who was said to be so strong that he could tear a man apart with his bare hands. Greyiron was eventually slain by the Storm King, but his descendants continued to rule the Iron Islands and carry on his legacy.
Over the centuries, House Greyjoy established itself as one of the most powerful houses of the Iron Islands. They were renowned for their seafaring skills and their ability to raid and plunder the coasts of the mainland. The Greyjoys followed the Old Way, a tradition that emphasized the importance of strength, bravery, and self-reliance.
However, the Greyjoys' power and influence were often challenged by other ironborn houses, including House Hoare, which conquered the Iron Islands and established the Kingdom of the Isles and Rivers in the 4th century After the Conquest. The Greyjoys would eventually rebel against the Hoares, leading to a long and bloody conflict known as the War of the Iron Kings. The Greyjoys emerged victorious, establishing their own kingdom and ruling the Iron Islands for several centuries.
During the Targaryen conquest, House Greyjoy initially resisted the dragons, but eventually submitted to Aegon the Conqueror and pledged their loyalty to the Iron Throne. However, the Greyjoys remained fiercely independent and continued to raid the mainland, often clashing with the forces of House Stark and House Tully.
