A Union of Kingdoms
The Kingdom of Castile begins the game as a great power. They are not a single kingdom, but actually a union of the Iberian Kingdoms; Castile, Leon, Toledo, Galicia, Murcia, Jean, Cordoba and Seville. They have in recent years been in many wars, both trying to subjugate the Kingdom of Portugal under a personal union and vice versa. The Reconqusita was a big thing, but Iberian history is also full of wars between the many Iberian Kingdoms.
Factions within Castile are working towards putting foreign pretenders from Portugal and Aragon on the throne of Castile, these factions work out of their own interest. Castile also has loyal factions in both Portugal and Castile working on putting Castilian rulers on their thrones.
Aragon is also a union of Kingdoms, never referred to as the ‘Kingdom of Aragon’, but ‘The Crown of Aragon’, it holds not only the Iberian kingdoms of Aragon, Barcelona and Valencia, but also the kingdoms of Sardinia and Sicily. And the Kingdom of Naples in a personal union. The two other independent kingdoms in Iberia are Navarre and Portugal.
Try and subjugate the other kingdoms if the chance is given, do not put your own stability at risk, but if the chance for putting another Iberian kingdom in a union occurs, it should be the highest priority.
It is expected that you take the fight to unite Iberia. It might not be worth it to go fully against Aragon to subjugate Navarra, but unless you are already in a war or a disaster, then it is expected. You should also expect both Portugal and Aragon to try and subjugate you if they get the chance.
You are a Catholic bastion, the grave of St. Peter is in Galicia, a major pilgrim route goes through your land, hundreds of thousands of pilgrims visit yearly and it is one of the holiest places in the Catholic faith. It would take some serious RP to allow for your nation to convert entirely.
Your monarchy is deeply catholic, while you might end up in a situation where you ally a protestant or reformed family, the majority of your dynasty would never marry heretics. It needs a major RP narrative to allow your nation to marry heretical dynasties.
Castile has major infighting between the estates of its nation, each faction fighting for power against each other. Historically, the Spanish Inquisition was largely used by the crown as a government tool to consolidate power under the monarchy. We expect to see this flavor your narrative
Assigning a holy order to a state must be done in RP. You can even RP the different orders as powerful factions with their own agendas within your nation.
Castile gets through events the decision to go down the path of absolutism or cede power to the nobles early on. This could RP around.
If you form Spain, you must go down the path of absolutism. Destroy and diminish the power of the estates and gather as much crownland as possible. It is forbidden to have lots of estate privileges without proper RP justification.
