Description
At the start of Robert's Rebellion, House Martell was the ruling house of Dorne, the southernmost region of the Seven Kingdoms. Their sigil was a red sun pierced by a golden spear on an orange field.
House Martell was ruled by Prince Doran Martell, a cautious and introspective leader who had earned the respect of his people through his wisdom and compassion. Despite their isolation from the rest of the Seven Kingdoms, the Martells had maintained their independence and their unique culture, which was heavily influenced by the desert environment of Dorne.
One of the most important members of House Martell was Prince Oberyn Martell, a fierce and charismatic warrior known for his deadly skills with a spear. Oberyn was a member of the King's Small Council, and he was a close friend of Elia Martell, the sister of Prince Rhaegar Targaryen.
During Robert's Rebellion, House Martell initially stayed out of the conflict, preferring to remain neutral and avoid the bloodshed that had engulfed the rest of the Seven Kingdoms. However, when Rhaegar Targaryen was killed and his children were murdered by Lannister forces, the Martells declared their support for the Targaryen cause and began to plan their revenge against House Lannister.

Recent History
House Martell is one of the oldest and proudest noble houses in Westeros, with a history that dates back thousands of years. They are the ruling house of Dorne, the southernmost region of the Seven Kingdoms, and their sigil is a red sun pierced by a golden spear on an orange field.
The Martells trace their lineage back to the ancient Rhoynish people, who migrated to Dorne thousands of years ago. They intermarried with the Andals who later came to Dorne, and eventually became one of the ruling houses of the region.
One of the most famous Martells in history was Princess Nymeria, who led the Rhoynar in their exodus from their homeland in Essos to Dorne. She married Lord Mors Martell, and their union united the Rhoynar and the Martells into one people. Nymeria was a brilliant leader and a skilled warrior, and she is revered by the people of Dorne to this day.
In more recent history, House Martell played a key role in the Targaryen conquest of Westeros, when they joined forces with Aegon the Conqueror and his sisters in their campaign to unite the Seven Kingdoms under Targaryen rule. The Martells were the last of the great houses to join the Targaryens, but once they did, they proved to be staunch allies and loyal vassals.
During the reign of King Aerys II Targaryen, the Martells remained loyal to the crown despite growing tensions between Dorne and the rest of the Seven Kingdoms. However, the Martells were deeply affected by the death of Elia Martell, the sister of Prince Doran Martell and the wife of Prince Rhaegar Targaryen.
