We know little about the origins of the Kobold race, exept the obvious: They first emerged during the Dragonwake 470 AA in our lands, apparently called for by a dragon named Tayekan the Blue. But it seems they have established themselves underground inside the Dragonspine mountains previous to that, while establishing some sort of primitive dragon worshipping religion.
While harmless on their own, Kobolds tend to emerge in massive amounts of swarms.
During the Dragonwake they pushed our ancestors quickly out of their cities and were able to dig themselves into the natural defences of the Dragonspine. They consitently show a worrying amount of greed towards everything shiny. It has been theorized they use stolen gold and silver in their primitive rituals to appease their missing Dragon gods.

They structure their society akin to a religious society. Their High priests are the de facto "kings" of the Clan. While obvious difference in size and strength are correlated to social influence, the rest of their hierarchy is largely egalitarian. Other than for example Orcs they also tend to value intelligence.
Worryingly this intelligence is largely underestimated by civilized societies. Not only are Kobolds experts in trapping and ambush tactics, they are also capable of learning the usage of very complicated tools at an alarming rate.
Paired with their exeptionally short breeding cicle from only a few weeks they are going to use their craftiness soon to find new grounds to populate.
I Quopip Silverwrench state hereby thusly: If we continue to leave this race alone and unify in the mountains, we will sooner than believed possible stand before a foe more technologically advanced than most human nations.

Every gnomish child knows this about Kobolds their scaled bodies come in a variety of different colours. Red, blue and green are the most common types in this area, but they have been reports of golden Kobolds in the far east as well. The colouring is the easiest way to find out their clan membership, with blues most common in the Dragonspine proper, reds dominate the coastline and greens live in the marshlands to the north.
While they are almost as small as ourselves, they come with sharp teeth, small sharp horns and long dangerous claws.
It is commonly known they breed via eggs, with one or maybe two eggs laid by the mother.
All these traits point towards them being some sort of reptilian creature. Folklore suggests they are either descendats of dragons or were created by them in their image. The rudimentary reading material on their cult suggests they believe the same. As a established scholar in can not in good conscience agree with that, but i have to defer to future research on their origins.
