Voltaire's New Nightmare

This mod is a massive overhaul focused entirely on the drama and action centered around The Holy Roman Empire.

Roleplaying Voltaire's New Nightmare will be a major path on intrigue, betrayal, lies and backstabbing.

The Emperor will be busy ruling the powerful seven electors, while outside powers are influencing the politics of the Empire. Everyone will try and gain as much power and control as they can - all of this happens while God's own representative breaths down the neck of everyone - The Pope.

The purpose of this campaign is to develop our roleplaying skills. The game mechanics are mere tools to tell our stories. Optimized decisions, mindless conquest and 'winning' has no purpose in our game. Positive side effects are learning more about the dynamics of the HRE, an area that always is highly player populated in the normal campaigns and hopefully a lot of rank ups!

Guidelines for expansion for this campaign

Before you make any expansion through conquest or vassalization, make sure that you have a proper reason for said expansion so that you dont end up conquering a lot of stuff without proper rp behind it.
Examples of RP reasons to conquer or vassalize someone:
- They produce an interesting trade goods you do not
- Their ruler has a trait you disagree with (Sinner, Greedy, Cruel)
- You got permission/ordered by an influential player (Elector, Emperor, Pope) to expand because of their RP goals
- To conquer the lands of your disagreeing relatives (shares same dynasty)
- You want to secure an important province to make an important defense against a rival
- You want to challenge the power of your rival in the area by vassalizing small lords close to him
- You want to subjugate a vassal between you and a rival as a buffer zone
- You disagree with them on imperial politics and want to lower their power and influence
- Their ruler has been excommunicated by the Pope
- To connect the lands you control to secure your power over them
